Skill Level: Intermediate for those with moderate sewing skills. Sewing machine required. 

Instructor: Dwayne Wanner is a member of the Connections Fibre Arts Group. With nearly 40 years of experience, Dwayne has developed a distinctive style focused on contemporary art quilts. Hs work has been showcased at events across Ontario and the United States. In addition to his participation in exhibitions, Dwayne has produced major fibre art exhibitions and taught quilting and fibre art guilds across Ontario.  

Description: This three-session workshop will present an alternative approach to traditional quilting. Participants will design and create an individual abstract wall-hanging. The process will involve creative colour arrangements of fabric and the application of old and new quilting and appliqué techniques.  

Session 1 -Saturday, February 15, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – An orientation by Zoom or in person so participants can prepare for the in-gallery workshop. (an alternative date can be arranged) 

Session 2 – Saturday, February 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Participants will bring their own sewing machines and work on the project in the Gallery. There will be a table of fabrics for them to use in addition to their own materials. Tea, coffee and water will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. 

Session 3 – Saturday, March 1 9:30 a.m.– 1:00 p.m. During this session participants will have the opportunity to complete embellishments, view finished wall-hangings and have a post-production discussion of the techniques. 

Dwayne will be available throughout the process for individual question-answering and problem-solving via Zoom.
